Israel celebrates her 68th birthday today

Israel celebrates her 68th birthday today, known in Israel as Yom HaAtzma’ut.

Below is a photo from the Israel’s declaration of independence in 1948.

Some of the members of Knesset were missing during the declaration because Israel was under siege by multiple nations; some members were in the military and still others were unable to travel to make the meeting due to foreign military blockades and bombings.

Still, the members present declared independence on this day in 1948.

The man standing in the photo is David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister.

And the photo on the wall shows someone very instrumental in the founding of Israel. Can you identify him?
